Hi! I’m Adrienne Hurst. I’m an audio producer, writer and editor who’s passionate about policy, mental health and audio storytelling. I produce narrated articles for The New York Times, working with journalists to bring their reporting to life in audio. Previously, I made podcasts at POLITICO, where I helped launch and produce Playbook Deep Dive and decoded the latest in politics on the occasional Playbook Audio Briefing (recorded from the floor of my makeshift closet studio, often shared with my large adult cat daughter, Pearl).
Before pivoting to podcasts, I was the senior web editor for POLITICO Pro. I served as lead copy editor, steering an inclusive, ever-evolving style guide, co-authoring Illinois Playbook and producing content for 20+ policy verticals. Before that, Chicago media — from Northwestern’s journalism masters program to my year as a criminal justice reporter, to covering everything from trauma deserts to Insta-famous dogs for Chicago magazine — taught me everything I know.
